P&T 4.5gm Injection is a combination of two medicines: Piperacillin and Tazobactum. Piperacillin is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Tazobactum is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Piperacillin against bacteria.

P&T 4.5gm Injection is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
P&T 4.5gm Injection is safe to use during lactation.
Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
It is not known whether P&T 4.5gm Injection alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.
P&T 4.5gm Injection should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of P&T 4.5gm Injection may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
P&T 4.5gm Injection is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of P&T 4.5gm Injection may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Q. What are the contraindications of P&t?
Use of P&t should be avoided in patients with known allergy to any of the component or excipients of this medicine.
P&t is injected into a vein through an intravenous route (IV). You may be shown how to use an IV at home. Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not self-inject this medicine, if you do not fully understand the instructions. Properly dispose of used needles and other items used to inject the medicine. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. It must be given slowly, and the IV infusion can take at least 30 minutes to complete.
Q. What happens if I overdose?
If you overdose the P&t you may suffer severe anxiety, feeling restless or nervous, or seizure (convulsions). Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms.
