Introduction

Osygin Tablet is a medicine used in the treatment of common cold symptoms. It relieves from allergic symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. It also blocks the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain, inflammation, and fever.

Osygin Tablet can be taken with or without food. Depending on the severity of your underlying illness, your doctor will decide the precise dose. You should take the medicine regularly while you do need it and try not to miss doses as it will become less effective.

Using this medicine may cause insomnia, restlessness, and sleepiness in some people. If you experience any of such side effects that do not go away or get worse, you should let your doctor know. Your doctor may be able to suggest ways of preventing or reducing the symptoms. In general, you should try to use the smallest amount necessary to control your symptoms.

Before using the medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have any other illnesses or disorders. It may also affect, or be affected by, some other medicines you are using so let your doctor know all the other medicines you are taking. It should be used with caution in patients who are alcoholic or have liver or kidney disease. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors first before using the medicine.

How to use Osygin Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Osygin Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Osygin Tablet works

Osygin Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Paracetamol, caffeine and chlorpheniramine which relieve common cold symptoms. Paracetamol is an analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer). It blocks the release of certain chemical messengers in the brain that are responsible for pain and fever. Caffeine increases the effectiveness of paracetamol. Chlorpheniramine is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.

Pregnancy

Osygin Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeeding
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Osygin Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Larger doses or prolonged use of Osygin Tablet may cause sleepiness and other effects in the baby
Driving
UNSAFE
Osygin Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Osygin Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Osygin Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Osygin Tablet may cause excessive sleepiness in patients with end stage kidney disease.
Liver
CAUTION
Osygin Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Osygin Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, the use of Osygin Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease and active liver disease.
