Product introduction

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is a combination of two medicines. It helps to control high blood pressure in different ways. If high blood pressure is not treated it can lead to heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure.

You can take Olvance-CT 40 Tablet with or without food. The dose will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. Try to take it at the same time each day. It is important to keep taking this medicine until your doctor tells you not to. It contains a diuretic (water pill) and will make you urinate more so, it is best to avoid taking this medicine within four hours of going to bed. Use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it even if you feel well. High blood pressure does not usually have symptoms and if you stop taking it your risk of heart attack or stroke may increase.

The most common side effect is dizziness. Other side effects include feeling a headache, nausea, indigestion, and stomachache. Frequent urination is not a side effect of this medicine. It is the purpose of chlorthalidone and helps control your blood pressure. You may experience other possible side effects, but most are rare. Make sure you read the leaflet that comes with your medicines and tell your doctor if you are bothered by side effects or they do not go away. It may be possible to adjust your dose or try a different medicine.

This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy and you should ask your doctor before taking it if you have kidney or liver disease, heart trouble or diabetes. Drinking alcohol can further lower your blood pressure and may cause side effects.

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is a combination of two medicines namely Olmesartan and chlorthalidone. It is generally used when one medicine alone is not controlling your blood pressure effectively. Olmesartan works by relaxing and widening your blood vessels so your blood can flow more easily. This will lower your blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is known as a diuretic (water pill) which increases urine output thereby lowering blood pressure. If your blood pressure is controlled you are less at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. You do not usually feel any direct benefit from taking this medicine, but it works in the long term to keep you well.

How to use Olvance-CT Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Olvance-CT 40 Tablet may be taken with or without food.

How Olvance-CT Tablet works

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is a combination of olmesartan medoxomil and chlorthalidone. Olmesartan medoxomil works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that causes blood vessels to narrow, thereby relaxing and widening the blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that helps remove excess salt and water from the body through urine, reducing fluid volume and easing the workload on the heart. Together, they help lower and control blood pressure effectively.

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is highly unsafe during pregnancy. It can cause serious harm to the unborn baby, including birth defects and pregnancy loss. Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Breast feeding

UNSAFE

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving

It is not known whether Olvance-CT 40 Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Please consult your doctor.

Kidney

CAUTION

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Use of Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is not recommended in these patients.

Liver

UNSAFE

Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is unsafe to use in patients with liver disease and should be avoided.
Use of Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

What if you forget to take Olvance-CT Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Olvance-CT 40 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If a patient develops diarrhea while taking Olvance-CT 40 Tablet and no other cause of diarrhea can be deduced, the doctor may suggest discontinuation of the medicine and recommend another medicine.

What are the serious side effects of Olvance-CT 40 Tablet?

The serious side effects of Olvance-CT 40 Tablet include skin rash or itchiness, painful joints, fast heart beat, shortness of breath or tightness in the chest. Serious side effects may also include aching, tender or weak muscles not caused by exercise and swelling of the hands, feet or ankles. Olvance-CT 40 Tablet may also cause symptoms that may indicate high potassium levels in the blood, such as nausea, diarrhea, muscle weakness and change in heart rhythm. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

Can Olvance-CT 40 Tablet affect my fertility or sex life?

Some blood pressure medicines (including water pills like hydrochlorothiazide) may affect a man’s ability to gain or maintain an erection (erectile dysfunction). However, it is thought that other blood pressure medicines can actually improve erectile dysfunction. If you are worried or notice some changes, talk to your doctor. There is no firm evidence which suggests any effect on the fertility of either men or women with the use of Olvance-CT 40 Tablet.

For how long do I need to take Olvance-CT 40 Tablet? Is it safe to take long term?

You may have to take Olvance-CT 40 Tablet life long. Olvance-CT 40 Tablet controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Do not stop taking it even if your blood pressure is well controlled. Olvance-CT 40 Tablet is generally considered safe to be taken for a long term. In some cases, long-term use may adversely affect the kidneys and the kidneys may not function as they should. Therefore, your doctor may prescribe regular blood tests to check urea, creatinine and potassium levels to keep a track of your kidneys functions.

Can I take Olvance-CT 40 Tablet before surgery?

Your doctor may advise you to stop taking Olvance-CT 40 Tablet 24 hours before surgery. This is because Olvance-CT 40 Tablet can further reduce your blood pressure when used with anesthetics. So, inform your doctor that you are taking Olvance-CT 40 Tablet if you will be given general anesthetics (medicines that put you to sleep) or are scheduled to have any surgery.
