Ocupol DX Eye Ointment is a combination of three medicines. It is used in treating bacterial infections of the eyes. It kills the bacteria that cause infection. It also relieves pain, itching, discomfort, and irritation.


Ocupol DX Eye Ointment is strictly advised to be used only in the eyes. Use it in the prescribed dose and duration. Apply it only to the affected eyes. You must wash your hand before administering the medicine. Do not use it more than the recommended dose. The medicine should not be stopped suddenly without a doctor's consultation.

It is generally safe, but it may sometimes cause discomfort, irritation, and burning sensation in the eyes.  These effects are mild and go away in some time. However, if these effects persist, you should consult the doctor immediately.

Ocupol DX Eye Ointment is used to treat bacterial infection of the eyes such as conjunctivitis or pink eye. It stops the growth of bacteria causing infection and helps relieve pain, swelling, redness, itching or irritation in the eyes. Use it 2-3 times a day for atleast a week or as prescribed by the doctor. Your symptoms might improve after using Ocupol DX Eye Ointment. However, make sure to complete the full course of treatment. This will ensure that the infection is completely cured and prevent it from returning.

How to use Ocupol DX Eye Ointment

This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the tube close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the tube and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid.

How Ocupol DX Eye Ointment works

Ocupol DX Eye Ointment is a combination of two antibiotics (Chloramphenicol, Polymyxin B) and a steroid (Dexamethasone). The antibiotics work by killing the bacteria or stopping their growth. Together, they treat your eye infection effectively. The steroid blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the eye red, swollen and itchy.

  • You have been prescribed Ocupol DX Eye Ointment for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye.
  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • Do not use Ocupol DX Eye Ointment for more than the prescribed duration as it may cause glaucoma or secondary infection. 
  • Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contamination.
  • Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up.
  • Throw away any medicine left at the end of the 5 day course.
