Chloramphenicol+Dexamethasone+Polymyxin B is used in the treatment of bacterial eye infections.
How Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B works
Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B is a combination of two antibiotics (Chloramphenicol , Polymyxin B) and a steroid ( Dexamethasone ). The antibiotics work by killing the bacteria or stopping their growth. Together, they treat your infection effectively. The steroid blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy.

  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • Do not use Chloramphenicol + Dexamethasone + Polymyxin B for more than the prescribed duration as it may cause glaucoma or secondary infection. 
  • Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contamination.
  • Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up.
  • Throw away any medicine left at the end of the 5 day course.

Wash your hands before using Chloramphenicol+Dexamethasone+Polymyxin B to avoid contamination, and do not touch the tip of the dropper. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using this medicine. For using this medicine, tilt your head back, look up, and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch and then put Chloramphenicol+Dexamethasone+Polymyxin B (drop or ointment).
If you apply excess of Chloramphenicol+Dexamethasone+Polymyxin B accidentally, wash your eye with plenty of water. Contact your doctor immediately if eye irritation occurs even after washing off this medicine.
No, do not stop using Chloramphenicol+Dexamethasone+Polymyxin B and complete the full course of treatment. Your symptoms may improve and you may start to feel better before the infection is completely cured. But continue taking your medicine for the duration advised by your doctor.
Keep this medicine in the container it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
