Hold the dropper close to the eye/ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid or ear. Wipe off extra liquid.
Ocupol D Eye Drop is a combination of three medicines: Chloramphenicol, Dexamethasone and Polymyxin B. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which stops bacterial growth by inhibiting synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Dexamethasone is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the ear red, swollen and itchy after an allergy or infection. Polymyxin B is an antibiotic which kills bacteria by destroying the bacterial cell membrane.
Ocupol D Eye Drop may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Ocupol D Eye Drop is probably unsafe to use during lactation.
Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Ocupol D Eye Drop may cause dizziness (vertigo). Changes in your eyesight or muscle weakness may also happen. This may affect your driving ability.
Ocupol D Eye Drop is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Ocupol D Eye Drop may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor. Regular monitoring of kidney function tests and other blood tests is advisable while you are taking Ocupol D Eye Drop.
