Overview

Introduction

Ocupol D Eye Drop is a combination of three medicines. It is used in treating bacterial infection of eyes. It kills the bacteria that cause infection. It also relieves pain, itching, discomfort and irritation.

Ocupol D Eye Drop is strictly advised to be used only in the eyes. Use it in the prescribed dose and duration. Apply it only on the affected eyes. You must wash your hand before administering the medicine. Do not use it more than the recommended dose. The medicine should not be stopped suddenly without doctor's consultation.

It is generally safe, but it may sometimes cause irritation, tingling sensation, discomfort, and pain in the eyes. These effects are mild and go away in some time. However, if these effects persist, you should consult the doctor immediately.

    Try placing a warm or cold pack over your closed eyes. Putting a chilled black tea bag over your eyes may also help. Remove eye and face make-up before going to bed and wash your face and eyes regularly. Rinse your eyelids gently and pat dry with a clean, dry towel. Do not rub your eyes. Raise your head at night to reduce fluid retention. If your condition does not improve, talk to your doctor. There may be medicines available depending on the cause of the inflammation.

How to use Ocupol D Eye Drop

This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.

How Ocupol D Eye Drop works

Ocupol D Eye Drop is a combination of two antibiotics (Chloramphenicol, Polymyxin B) and a steroid (Dexamethasone). The antibiotics work by killing the bacteria or stopping their growth. Together, they treat your eye infection effectively. The steroid blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the eye red, swollen and itchy.

Quick Tips

  • You have been prescribed Ocupol D Eye Drop for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye.
  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • Do not use Ocupol D Eye Drop for more than the prescribed duration as it may cause glaucoma or secondary infection. 
  • Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contamination.
  • Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
  • It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines.

  • Throw away any medicine left at the end of the 5 day course.

No, do not stop taking Ocupol D and complete the full course of treatment. Your symptoms may improve and you may start to feel better before the infection is completely cured. But continue taking your medicine for the duration advised by your doctor.

Keep this medicine in the container it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.

Wash your hands before using Ocupol D to avoid contamination, and do not touch the tip of the dropper. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using this medicine. If you apply excess of Ocupol D accidentally, wash your eye with plenty of water. Contact your doctor immediately if eye irritation occurs even after washing off this medicine.
