Meftal-MR Tablet should be taken with food. This will prevent you from getting an upset stomach. Take it in the dose and duration as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or use it for longer duration than recommended by the doctor.
The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, loss of appetite, sleepiness, weakness, and dryness in mouth. If any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get worse, you should let your doctor know. Your doctor may be able to suggest ways of preventing or reducing them.
Before taking it, you should let your doctor know if you have any medical conditions or disorders. Let your doctor also know about all the other medicines you are taking to make sure it is safe for you. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting treatment.

How Meftal-MR Tablet works
Meftal-MR Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Mefenamic acid and Tizanidine which relieve abdominal pain. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling). Tizanidine is a muscle relaxant which works by acting on the centers in the brain and spinal cord to relieve the muscle stiffness or spasm.

- You have been prescribed Meftal-MR Tablet to relieve abdominal cramps.
- It is best to take it when the first sign of pain occurs.
- Stick to simple meals and avoid spicy rich food in order to avoid feeling sick (nausea).
- If you get diarrhea while taking this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
- Dry mouth may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, increased water intake and sugarless candy may help.
- Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within two hours of taking Meftal-MR Tablet.
- If you develop any new symptoms, or if your symptoms get worse, make an appointment to see your doctor for further advice.

Meftal-MR Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of fetal risk based on animal studies. However, it may still be prescribed by a doctor in situations where the benefits outweigh the risks.

Breast feeding
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
Meftal-MR Tablet may be unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby. It should be used only if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk. Please consult your doctor.

Driving
UNSAFE
Meftal-MR Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision, or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Kidney
CAUTION
Meftal-MR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Liver
CAUTION
Meftal-MR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Use of Meftal-MR Tablet is not advised in patients with severe liver disease. Liver function tests are recommended before the start of treatment and then on a regular basis as advised.
