Madcef-LB Tablet

Prescription Required

Your Child’s Medicine At a Glance

Madcef-LB Tablet contains two ingredients, one antibiotic and one probiotic. While the antibiotic helps kill a wide range of bacterial infections, the probiotic prevents the antibiotic from causing digestive problems as a side effect. It does so by restoring the balance of good bacteria in the intestine.

Give Madcef-LB Tablet to your child with or without meals with a full glass of water. Though the risk of developing a stomach upset is less with this medicine, giving it with meals will further reduce the risk. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of the intake, give the same dose again but do not double dose if it is time for the next dose.

Madcef-LB Tablet may cause some minor and temporary side effects in your child. These may include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and allergy. Usually, these episodes subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, if these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without any delay.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history to your child’s doctor, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

In Treatment of Bacterial infections

Madcef-LB Tablet is an antibiotic medicine. It is commonly given to children to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including infections of the eyes, middle ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bone and joints, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. This medicine inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria by stopping it from multiplying.

Children usually start showing improvement within 3 to 5 days of the regular dosing. You must continue giving the medicine even after seeing this improvement because stopping the medicine abruptly may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

How Madcef-LB Tablet works

Quick Tips

  • Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
  • Madcef-LB Tablet may cause a bitter taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
  • Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.
  • Never give Madcef-LB Tablet until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms.
  • Stop Madcef-LB Tablet immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

Do you have any questions related to Madcef-LB Tablet ?

Q. My child is suffering from liver failure and his investigations showed high blood ammonia levels. Is it safe to give Madcef-LB Tablet?

No. It is better to avoid giving Madcef-LB Tablet as it contains lactobacillus which can further elevate the levels of blood ammonia and increase the risk of serious complications like coma.

Q. What if I give too much of Madcef-LB Tablet by mistake?

Avoid giving more than the recommended dose because overdose may cause unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition. Although an extra dose of Madcef-LB Tablet is unlikely to harm, if you think you have given too much of Madcef-LB Tablet to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.

Q. Are there any possible serious side effects of Madcef-LB Tablet?

In rare cases, Madcef-LB Tablet may cause some serious side effects such as persistent vomiting, kidney damage, and allergy. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Q. What other medicines should not be given along with Madcef-LB Tablet?

Avoid giving Madcef-LB Tablet along with medicines like aminoglycosides such as amikacin, gentamicin, streptomycin, and anticoagulants (blood-thinners) such as warfarin. Before you start giving Madcef-LB Tablet to your child, let your child’s doctor know if your child is taking any of the above-mentioned medicines.

Q. Can I vaccinate my child while he is taking Madcef-LB Tablet?

It is advised to inform the doctor if your child is taking Madcef-LB Tablet at the time of vaccinations like BCG, cholera, and typhoid as Madcef-LB Tablet can neutralize the effect of these vaccines.

Q. The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

No, yellow or green mucus in the nose does not mean that antibiotics are needed. It is normal for mucus to thicken up and change from clear to yellow or green. With symptoms often lasting for 7-10 days, this is exactly how a common cold generally progresses.
