Your child’s medicine at a glance

Give Leworm Suspension to your child by mouth, preferably with a fat-containing food such as milk. This will help your child’s body absorb this medicine better. In case your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking Leworm Suspension, give the same dose again. Do not double the dose if it is time for the next dose. The duration of the treatment will depend on the type of worm your child is infected with.

Usually, Leworm Suspension is given as a single dose. Your child’s doctor may prescribe repeating this dose after two weeks to prevent reinfection. However, some specific types of infections may require you to give this medicine to your child for a few days to weeks. In such a case, you must give this medicine for the exact prescribed number of days, as stopping it too soon may cause reinfection.

Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, hair fall, mild fever, and sore throat are some of the common yet temporary side effects of Leworm Suspension. In some rare cases, this medicine may cause bleeding, which is a serious side effect of this medicine. Make sure to report to your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or become bothersome or if your child experiences bleeding.

How can I give Leworm Suspension to my child?

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Leworm Suspension should be taken with or after food.

How Leworm Suspension works

Leworm Suspension is a mixture of two medicines: ivermectin and albendazole. Ivermectin works by binding to the muscle and nerve cells of worms, causing their paralysis and death. Albendazole works by preventing the worms from absorbing sugar (glucose), thereby depleting their energy level. This causes the worms to die, thereby treating your child’s infection effectively.

Quick tips

  • Do not share your child’s medicines with others, and do not give anyone else’s medicine to your child.
  • Worm infections are easily spread between family members. Your doctor may recommend treatment for all family members on the same day, whether or not they have any symptoms of infection.
  • Do not give raw or undercooked food to your child. Always give a balanced diet containing herbs, fruits, and spices of therapeutic value. Encourage your child to wash their hands with soap and water every time they use the toilet, as that will help prevent cross-infection. Trim your child’s nails frequently to prevent any source of worm infection. Maintain a neat space and hygiene around your child.
  • Call your child’s doctor right away if the child exhibits signs of an allergic reaction like a rash, itching, or any other sign of infection, such as fever, gum bleeding, black or red stools, and blood in urine or vomit.
  • This medicine is known to elevate the levels of liver enzymes. So, do not delay connecting with your child’s doctor in case your child exhibits any signs of a liver problem like dark urine, tiredness, upset stomach, light-colored stools, or yellow skin or eyes.
  • You have been prescribed this combination medicine to treat infections caused by worms and parasites.
  • Take it with or without food or as suggested by your doctor.
  • It can be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Use birth control measures to prevent pregnancy while taking Leworm Suspension.
  • You may have more chance of getting an infection. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu. Inform your doctor if you notice signs of infection such as fever or sore throat.
  • Your doctor may monitor your blood counts and liver function before you start taking this medicine and regularly throughout your treatment.

Frequently asked questions

It could be a worm infection if your child complains of an itchy bottom (rectal area), difficulty sitting, fatigue, restless sleep due to anal itching, and persistent stomach pain with loss of appetite or frequent indigestion. Another sign of worm infection is pica, in which you may notice your child eating inedible substances such as mud. Speak to your child’s doctor as soon as you notice any of these in your child. The doctor may suggest collecting your child’s stool and blood samples on 3 different days for examination. Depending upon the reports, the doctor will decide upon the treatment and prescribe it.
Leworm Suspension can be given at any time of the day; just remember to give it with a fat-containing food such as milk.
Areas with poor sanitation may have soil that is contaminated with eggs or worms. Your child may also get infected by playing in the contaminated soil. When your child returns home after playing, ask them to clean up using soap and water. Transmission can also occur by drinking contaminated water or by eating contaminated vegetables and fruits without washing or peeling.
Store Leworm Suspension at room temperature in a cool, dry place beyond the reach of the children and pets to avoid any accidental intake. Do not freeze the medicine.
Reach out to the doctor if your child complains of vision problems, puffy eyes, or severe itching all over the body, or experiences trouble walking or standing, trouble breathing, or a fast heart rate. You should also not neglect if your child feels disoriented or confused, exhibits loss of bowel control, or complains of neck pain soon after the intake of Leworm Suspension.
