Leclav LB Dry Syrup is an antibiotic that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract in children. It can kill the bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and has a lesser chance of causing side effects like diarrhea.


You can give Leclav LB Dry Syrup to your child with or without food. However, giving it with food helps increase absorption and decrease the risk of stomach upset. The doctor may prescribe giving it two to three times a day, depending on the type and severity of the infection, your child’s body weight, and age. So, stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, let the child calm down and repeat the dose. Do not double dose if it is the time for the next dose.

Leclav LB Dry Syrup may cause side effects such as vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and allergy. These side effects should resolve on their own. But, in case they persist or start bothering your child, you must not delay speaking to your child’s doctor.

Leclav LB Dry Syrup is a medicine given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. Leclav LB Dry Syrup also treats bacterial pneumonia, which is a very common condition in children. This medicine inhibits the bacteria from multiplying, thereby arresting their growth. It is also given as an empirical therapy in conditions where the infection-causing bacteria is unknown and as a preventive (prophylactic) antibiotic therapy.

It may be given alone or along with some other medicines. Your child may start to feel better within 2 to 3 days of regular dosing. For best results, finish the full course of the medicine without stopping abruptly as doing so may lead to ineffective treatment and worsen your child’s condition.
Treatment of Resistance Tuberculosis (TB)
In multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis, the causative bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase. This enzyme breaks down the antibiotics and makes them ineffective. As a result, the bacteria become resistant to the antibiotic being used for treatment. Leclav LB Dry Syrup comprises two active ingredients, Amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. While clavulanic acid stops the enzyme from rendering amoxycillin ineffective, amoxycillin works towards killing the tuberculosis-causing bacteria. This makes the combination of Amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective treatment for resistant tuberculosis.

How Leclav LB Dry Syrup works

Leclav LB Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has three active agents, amoxycillin, clavulanic acid, and lactobacillus. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas, clavulanic acid serves the special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. While these two medicines treat your child’s infection, they may upset your child’s digestive system by killing healthy gut bacteria due to the prolonged intake of this medicine. The third agent, lactobacillus helps prevent side effects such as diarrhea by restoring the balance of healthy bacteria in your child’s gut.

  • Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Leclav LB Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
  • Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
  • Never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms.
  • Never self-medicate at home. Always consult the doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
  • Do not give Leclav LB Dry Syrup to treat the common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses.
  • Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections.
  • Stop Leclav LB Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.
