How to use Lactulax Syrup

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Lactulax 3.35ml Syrup at a fixed time.

Expert advice for Lactulax Syrup

  • Avoid taking a Lactulax for more than 1 week, unless prescribed by the doctor, as it leads to dependency on the laxative action to produce a bowel movement. 
  • Together with Lactulax, fiber rich diet containing whole grain bread and cereals, bran, fruits and green leafy vegetables, is essential to maintain healthy bowel function.
  • A Lactulax should preferably be taken at bedtime because it requires 6 to 8 hours to show impact.
  • Notify your doctor if you are on a low-sugar diet because the Lactulax contains sugars.
  • Take Lactulax after 2 hours from other medicines, as it may interfere with the absorption of other medicines.

Lactulose may interact with antibiotics, omeprazole, and Gaviscon/calcium carbonate. Senokot/senna, Fybogel/ispaghula when taken with lactulose may result in diarrhea. No interactions have been observed when lactulose is taken with warfarin, iron tablets, and paracetamol
Lactulax contains lactose, galactose, and small amounts of fructose. Do not take Lactulax if you have intolerance to these sugars.
