Overview

Introduction of Ketonid Shampoo

Ketonid Shampoo is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal and yeast infections of the skin. It works by killing the fungus that causes infections such as athlete’s foot, Dhobie Itch, thrush, ringworm and dry, flaky skin. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane.

Ketonid Shampoo should be used in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. This medicine should be used regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not use more than you need – it will not clear your condition faster and may only increase the side effects. Skin infections will usually get better after 2 to 4 weeks. Do not use it for longer than your doctor has told you to and let him or her know if your condition does not improve after 2 to 4 weeks of treatment. You can help the medicine work better by keeping the affected areas clean, making sure they are dry and washing your hands before and after treating the infection. If you have athlete’s foot, wash your socks or tights thoroughly and change your shoes daily if possible.

The most common side effects of using this cream include a burning sensation and irritation, dryness, peeling or blistering of the skin. Occasionally it can cause thinning of your hair. These are not usually serious, but you should call your doctor if you think you might have a severe allergic reaction. Signs of this include rash, swelling of the lips, throat or face, swallowing or breathing problems, feeling dizzy or faint and nausea. Get emergency help if this happens. Avoid direct contact of the medicine with your eyes. In case of direct contact, wash your eyes with water and seek immediate medical attention.

it is not likely that other medicines you take by mouth or injection will affect the way this medicine works, but talk to your doctor before using it if you have recently used another cream that contains a steroid or had an allergic reaction to another antifungal medicine. This medicine should only be used if it is clearly needed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor if it is safe.

FAQs

Q. What is the use of Ketonid?

Ketonid is used to control scaling, flaking and itching caused by dandruff. Dandruff is caused by excessive growth of Malassezia furfur, which is part of normal skin flora. It is also used to treat irregular white or brown patches which occur on the body and sometimes appear after being in the sun (tinea/pityriasis versicolor).

Q. How often should I use Ketonid?

If you are using it to treat dandruff, you should use it only twice weekly and if you are using it to prevent dandruff, then use it once weekly. Do not use Ketonid more often than directed.

Q. How should I apply Ketonid?

You should first wash your hair or affected area thoroughly with water. Then apply a small amount of Ketonid on the scalp. Massage properly to form lather. Leave it for 3-5 minutes, then thoroughly rinse with water. If you have long and thick hair, you can wash with your usual shampoo first and then use Ketonid.

Q. Should I stop using the steroid cream for dandruff if I have started Ketonid?

Do not stop using the steroid cream suddenly because this may flare up the dandruff. Instead, reduce the amount you use and gradually withdraw it over a period of 2-3 weeks.

Q. Can Ketonid affect vision if it gets into the eye while washing hair?

Be careful while washing your hair and do not let the shampoo get into the eye. However, if it accidentally enters the eye, do not worry and wash your eyes gently with water.

Q. What if someone accidentally swallows Ketonid?

Ketonid is meant for external use only and you should use it carefully so that it does not get into the mouth. Accidental swallowing is normally harmless but if you are worried, you should contact your doctor immediately.
