How Hygablin Capsule works

Hygablin 750mcg/75mg Capsule is a combination of two medicines: Methylcobalamin and Pregabalin. Methylcobalamin is a form of vitamin B which helps in the production of myelin, a substance that protects nerve fibers and rejuvenates damaged nerve cells. Pregabalin is an alpha 2 delta ligand which decreases pain by modulating calcium channel activity of the nerve cells. Together, they relieve neuropathic pain (pain from damaged nerves).

Q. What is Hygablin?
Hygablin is a combination of two medicines: Pregabalin and Methycobalamin. This medicine is useful in the treatment of nerve pain (Neuropathic pain). This medicine calms the damaged or overactive nerves by acting on brain. Thereby, it decreases the pain sensation. It also helps in regeneration of damaged nerves in the body.
Q. Can I stop taking Hygablin when my pain is relieved?
No, you should not stop taking Hygablin even if your pain is relieved. Continue to take it as advised by your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking Hygablin, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sleeping difficulties, nausea, pain, and sweating. You may need to gradually taper the use of Hygablin before you stop the medication completely.
Q. How to manage weight gain associated with the use of Hygablin?
Hygablin can make you feel hungry and it can be a difficult to stop yourself form putting on weight. However, preventing weight gain is easier than losing increased weight. Try to eat a healthy balanced diet without increasing your portion sizes. Don't eat foods that contain a lot of calories, such as soft drinks, oily food, chips, cakes, biscuits, and sweets. If you feel hungry between meals, eat fruit, vegetables and low-calorie foods. Regular exercise will also help to keep your weight stable. If you keep good eating habits and exercise regularly, you might not gain any weight.
Q. Can the use of Hygablin cause sleepiness or drowsiness?
Yes, Hygablin may make you feel drowsy or you may suddenly fall asleep during your regular daily activities. Sometimes, you might not even feel drowsy or have any other warning signs before you suddenly fall asleep. Do not drive a car, operate machinery, work at heights, or participate in potentially dangerous activities at the beginning of your treatment until you know how the medicine affects you. Inform your doctor if you experience such episodes while you are taking this medicine.
Q. Are there any serious side effects associated with the use of Hygablin?
Serious side effects with Hygablin are uncommon and rare. However, it may cause serious side effects like allergic reaction, suicidal thoughts or swelling of limbs (hands, legs or feet). Stop taking Hygablin and contact your health care provider if you have any signs of these serious side effects. Signs of allergic reaction include swelling of your face, mouth, lips, gums, tongue and neck, if you are having trouble in breathing, skin rash, hives (raised bumps) or blisters. Pay attention to any changes, especially sudden changes, in mood, behaviors, thoughts, or feelings which may be symptom of suicidal thoughts.
Q. How long will the Hygablin take to act?
An initial benefit with Hygablin maybe seen after 2 weeks of treatment. However, it may take around 2-3 months to see full benefit and even. It may take longer in some patients.
Q. What if I forget to take Hygablin?
If you forget to take the scheduled dose of Hygablin and it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking your medicine as you would normally. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed because this may increase the risk of unwanted side effect. If you are not sure what to do, ask your doctor about taking Hygablin.<br>
Q. Will Hygablin be more effective if taken more than recommended dose?
No, taking a higher than the recommended dose may not be more effective, rather it may increase the chances of having some serious side effects and toxicity. If you experience increased severity of your symptoms that is not relieved by the recommended doses, please consult your doctor for re-evaluation.

No, do not drink alcohol while you are taking Hygablin. Drinking alcohol can increase the severity of drowsiness or sleepiness caused by Hygablin.
