Atorvastatin(10 mg)

Uses

Atorvastatin is used to treat patients with elevated cholesterol, triglyceride or lipoprotein levels in blood, and to reduce the risk of heart diseases, even when blood cholesterol is normal.

How it works

Atorvastatin blocks the action of the enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) that is required for the production of cholesterol in the body. It thus lowers the level of blood lipids such as cholesterol and triglycerides.

Fenofibrate(160 mg)

Uses

Fenofibrate is used to reduce the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. It is used along with  exercise and diet in the treatment of very high levels of cholesterol in the blood (hyper-triglyceridemia).

How it works

Fenofibrate belongs to a class of drugs called as fibrates or fibric acid derivatives. It works by increasing the action of enzyme lipoprotein lipase which decreases the level of fats (triglycerides) in the blood.

Fenofibrate

Q. Is fenofibrate the same as Lipitor?
Fenofibrate is a drug belonging to a different class of drugs called “Fibrates”, whereas Lipitor (atorvastatin) belongs to the “Statin” class. Both the medicines act by different mechanisms.
 
Q. Does fenofibrate cause erectile dysfunction, weight gain or memory loss?
Fenofibrate may rarely cause sexual weakness in patients. It does not cause weight gain and memory loss. Consult your doctor before use.
 
Q. Can I take fenofibrate with alcohol?
Fenofibrate should not be taken with alcohol as it may lead to liver damage.
