How to use Embeta-R Tablet ER

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER is to be taken with food.

How Embeta-R Tablet ER works

Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER is a combination of two medicines: Metoprolol and ramipril which lower blood pressure effectively. Metoprolol is a beta blocker which works by slowing down the heart rate and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor which reduces stress on the heart and relaxes blood vessel so that blood flows more smoothly.

  • You have been prescribed Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER for the treatment of high blood pressure.
  • Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. 
  • It may cause the level of potassium in blood to go up. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as banana and broccoli.
  • Do not take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while taking this medication.
  • Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as it can cause a sudden increase in your blood pressure.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Taking Metoprolol with alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
Pregnancy

Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER is unsafe to use during pregnancy.
There is positive evidence of human fetal risk, but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk, for example in life-threatening situations. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of blood pressure is recommended for dose adjustment.
Liver
CAUTION
Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Embeta-R 5 Tablet ER may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Inform your doctor if you develop any signs and symptoms of jaundice while taking this medicine.
