Cortidac 1% Cream

Overview

Introduction

Cortidac 1% Cream is a topical steroid used for treatment of mild to moderate inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema. It prevents the release of substances that cause inflammation and provides relief from swelling, redness, and itching in the affected area.

Cortidac 1% Cream is meant only for external use and should be used as advised by your doctor. You should normally clean and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medicine evenly on the affected skin. You should not apply it on open wounds or damaged skin.

Use it regularly to get the maximum benefit from it. Avoid any contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with plenty of water in case of accidental contact. Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor.

It is usually well tolerated with little or no side effects. However it may cause application site reactions such as burning, irritation, itching, and redness in some people. These side effects are temporary and usually go away with time. However, if they persist or worsen, let your doctor know. It is important for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to consult their doctors before using this medicine.

Q. Can Cortidac be used on the face?

No, Cortidac should not be used on the face. In addition to this, Cortidac should not be used on the axillae (armpits), groin and if there is atrophy (wasting away of tissues) at the treatment site. In certain circumstances, it can be exceptionally considered to be used by the doctors. It should be used only after consultation with your physician and if possible, the application on the face should be limited to a maximum of 5 days.

Q. Can we use Cortidac in infections?

Cortidac is not an antimicrobial or antifungal agent. It is a steroid medication. It should not be used in infections as being a corticosteroid it suppresses the immune system and increases the risk of infections. Bacterial infections are prone to worsen if the infection is covered with a dressing after using Cortidac. In case the inflammatory lesions get infected or there is any spread of infection, consult your doctor immediately. The doctor will withdraw the use of Cortidac and provide appropriate antimicrobial therapy.

Q. How to use Cortidac?

Before using Cortidac, clean and dry the affected area. Gently and thoroughly massage it into the skin. Be careful not to get the medication in your eyes or mouth. If Cortidac gets in your eyes accidentally, wash with plenty of water and call your doctor if your eyes are irritated.

Q. Can I stop taking Cortidac when my symptoms are relieved?

No, do not stop taking Cortidac and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before your treatment is complete. Stopping Cortidac before your treatment is completed can bring back your symptoms of skin.

Q. What are the precautions that are needed to be taken while using Cortidac?

Cortidac should not be used on the face. Do not use the medication for longer periods of time than you have been advised. Do not apply a bandage or dressing to the area being treated, as this will increase absorption of the preparation and increase the risk of side-effects. This medicine should only be used when advised by the doctor and never give it to other people even if their condition appears to be the same.

Q. Who should not use Cortidac?

Cortidac should not be used in people who are allergic to Cortidac or any of its ingredients. It should also be avoided if a person has any kind of infection of the skin, eyes etc. It is important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a baby or breastfeeding to avoid any harm to your baby.

Q. What should I do if I forget to use Cortidac?

If you forget to use Cortidac, do not worry and continue using Cortidac as soon as you remember. However, if you are not sure and have any other doubts, please consult your doctor.
