Product introduction

Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) effectively treats bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, and urinary tract in children. It is also given to prevent infection in animal and human bite wounds and may also be given before surgical procedures as a preventive therapy.

Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) can be given either before or after meals but giving it with food improves absorption and reduces the chances of stomach upset in your child. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of the intake, give the same dose again but do not double dose if it is already time for the next dose.

This medicine may have some minor and temporary side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, allergy, and transient increased in liver enzyme. These episodes should start receding after a few doses. However, if these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without any delay.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history to your child’s doctor, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, a blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

FAQs

Q. My child is suffering from a seizure disorder. Can I give Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) to my child?

Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) may cause seizure activity, particularly in children who have kidney disease. So, Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) should be used with caution in children with a history of seizure disorder. If seizures occur, discontinue Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) and visit your child’s doctor right away.

Q. What if I give too much of Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) by mistake?

An extra dose of Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much of Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.

Q. Are there any possible serious side effects of Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack)?

Some serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack)?

Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack). Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack)?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

Q. Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) on a long-term basis?

The doctor may prescribe getting kidney function tests and liver function tests periodically to keep a check on your child’s condition.

Q. Does a common cold caused by viruses always result in a secondary bacterial infection? When to start an antibiotic to prevent infection?

In most cases, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics to treat viral infections may instead lead to side effects without benefiting your child's health. Hence, you must give antibiotics to your child only after consulting with your child’s doctor.

Q. Can Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) impact my child’s digestion?

Antibiotics kill the infection-causing bacteria, but while doing this they may affect the good bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, your child may develop diarrhea or some other infections as well. Moreover, children have a more sensitive stomach than adults, so the likelihood of developing a stomach upset is more. In case your child is having diarrhea while on Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack), do not stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. In some cases, the doctor may alter the dose.

Q. How long does Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) take to work?

The amount of time Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) takes to work depends on the type of infection and response of the patient to the medicine. The antibiotic may start working after you take it, but for maximum effect, it may require some time. Usually, the symptoms of bacterial infections start to decrease in 48 to 72 hours after starting the medication.

Q. How long should you take Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack)?

The duration of therapy with Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) depends upon the type of infection. It is usually given for 7 days. It ranges from 5 to 10 days and depends on the response of the infection in the patient. Before starting the medication consult a doctor who will prescribe the exact duration of therapy and follow the instructions as given.

Q. Can Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) be taken on an empty stomach?

No, Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) should not be taken on an empty stomach like other antibiotics of its class. It should be taken twice daily after a meal. Taking Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) with food increases the absorption rate of the drug. This further enhances the effectiveness of the medicine to treat the infection.

Q. Can Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) treat UTI?

Yes, Cetil Oral Suspension (Combipack) can be used to treat urinary tract infection (UTI). But, it is prescribed only in cases of uncomplicated UTIs for 7 to 10 days. The medication is to be prescribed by the doctor only, self-medication is not advised. The severity of the UTI decides the kind of therapy needed to treat it.
