How Cefup Injection works

Cefup 500 mg/250 mg Injection is a combination of two medicines: Cefotaxime and Sulbactam. Cefotaxime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefotaxime against bacteria.

Pregnancy

Cefup 500 mg/250 mg Injection is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
SAFE
Cefup 500 mg/250 mg Injection is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving
Cefup 500 mg/250 mg Injection may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Cefup 500 mg/250 mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Cefup 500 mg/250 mg Injection may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of kidney function may be advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver
