How CEFBACTAM 1000 MG/125 MG INJECTION works

Cefepime is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by attacking their cell wall. Specifically, it prevents the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called peptidoglycan, which provides the required strength to the bacterial cell wall for the survival of the bacteria in the human body.

Expert advice for Cefepime

  • Do not start or continue the cefepime and consult your doctor if you have kidney, liver or blood clotting disorder, stomach or bowel problems, poor nutrition, or if you are taking drugs like aminoglycosides (e.g. gentamycin) and diuretics (e.g. furosemide).
  • Caution should be taken when given to the children < 2 months old or to patients with diabetes as it may affect the results for urine glucose tests.

  • It is given as an infusion (a drip for 30 minutes) into a vein.
  • Tell the doctor if you have to provide a blood or urine sample for any test because tazobactam and piperacillin may cause false positive results.
Do not start or continue the tazobactam/piperacillin and consult your doctor:
  • If you are suffering from diarrhea before, or during the treatment with the drug.
  • If you have kidney or liver problems, low levels of potassium in the blood, or are receiving hemodialysis.
  • If you develop new or worsening infection, or fits (convulsions) during the treatment.
  • If you are on a controlled-sodium diet.
  • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
