How Betamil Cream works

Betamil Cream is a steroid. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy.

  • It should be applied to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor.
  • Don't use it more often or for longer than advised by your doctor.
  • Don't cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • If you think the area of skin you are treating has become infected you should stop using Betamil Cream and consult your doctor.
  • Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 2 weeks of treatment.

What is substitute for Beclate ointment? It was a product of cipla and now not avaI want to know the substitute for Beclate ointment( cipla medicine). Now it is not available in your store. Attached is the image for your reference. I believe the problem in image shared with you is eczema. I used to use Beclate ointment for these kind of skin issues but it is not available now. The substitute is Diprovate cream or Betamil cream or Betnovate cream . How ever since these are steroid creams Continuos usage can be harmful to the skin . Kindly consult a dermatologist before use beyond 2 weeks

Q. Is Betamil an antibiotic? How does it work?

No, Betamil is not an antibiotic. It is a synthetic corticosteroid. When used on the skin, Betamil acts directly on the cells and weakens the immune system. It also decreases the production of cells that cause swelling or inflammation, hence treating inflammatory conditions and skin diseases.

Q. What all infections does Betamil treat?

Betamil can be used on the skin to help control inflammatory skin conditions. It is also used to treat other skin conditions like atopic dermatitis, discoid eczema, Psoriasis, lichen planus, refractory skin diseases, irritant or allergic contact dermatitis and insect bite reactions. In addition to this, Betamil is often combined with antibiotics in some creams and ointments to be used for infected and inflamed skin conditions.

Q. Does Betamil work for lung maturity?

Yes, Betamil helps in lung maturation of the preterm baby. Therefore, it is given to mothers prior to the birth of the child if there is risk of preterm delivery. When given for lung development, it is given by intramuscular route and not by skin route. Contact your doctor for exact details and schedule of the therapy.

Q. Is Betamil dipropionate cream a steroid?

Yes, it is a corticosteroid. It is a corticosteroid formulation used to relieve inflammatory and itchy skin diseases. Long term or regular usage is not recommended due to varied side effects. Do not use it without consulting your doctor.

Q. Can Betamil be taken for a long time?

Betamil is a steroid and long-term or regular usage of a steroid is not recommended. Normally, it is recommended for a duration of 2-4 weeks. It suppresses your immunity and has numerous metabolic side effects. Hence, it is not recommended for a long period. If applying Betamil does not improve your symptoms, consult your physician for a reevaluation.
