Bavencio Injection is given as an injection by a healthcare professional. For it to be effective, complete the course of the medicine and do not discontinue even if you get better until the course is completed.

Some common side effects of this medicine include fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and muscle pain amongst others. These are usually mild and go away with time. However, if they persist or get worse, let the doctor know.

Before receiving the medicine, you should let your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any medicine. Also tell your doctor if you have any problems with your heart, kidneys, or liver. Some other medicines may react with this medicine, so let your doctor know of all the medication you are taking. Pregnant or breastfeeding should consult their doctors first before receiving this medicine.

Bavencio Injection helps to treat urinary bladder cancer. It kills the cancer cells by stimulating the immune system of our body. It prevents progression of the disease to advanced stages of cancer and also reduces the chances of recurrence of the cancer. It is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be self-administered.

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

How Bavencio Injection works

Bavencio Injection is a type of immunotherapy. It activates the body's immune system to fight cancer cells. Avelumab targets and blocks a protein (PD-L1) found on the surface of certain immune cells. Blocking PD-L1 activates the immune cells to find and kill cancer cells.

Quick tips

Do not receive any immunization or vaccination without your doctor’s approval while taking Bavencio Injection.
You may be at risk of infection, so try to avoid crowds or people with colds, and immediately report fever or any other signs of infection to your health care provider.
Inform your doctor immediately if you notice signs or symptoms of skin rash, itchy skin, a rash with tiny spots and bumps, reddening of the skin.
To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor, and eat small, frequent meals.
Use contraceptives, and do not conceive a child (get pregnant) while taking Bavencio Injection. Barrier methods of contraception, such as condoms, are recommended.
Avoid sun exposure. Wear SPF 15 (or higher) sunblock and protective clothing.
Do not drive or use machines after you have received Bavencio Injection since you might feel tired or dizzy.

Pregnancy

Bavencio Injection is not recommended during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of fetal risk based on animal studies. However, it may still be prescribed by a doctor in situations where the benefits outweigh the risks.

Breast feeding

UNSAFE

Bavencio Injection is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

It is not known whether Bavencio Injection alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Please consult your doctor.

Kidney

CAUTION

Bavencio Injection should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Liver

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Bavencio Injection is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data suggest dose adjustment may not be needed.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Bavencio with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects
