How to use Azocold Syrup

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Azocold Syrup may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Take it with food if stomach upset occurs.

How Azocold Syrup works

Azocold Syrup is a combination of two medicines: Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Phenylephrine, which relieves cold symptoms. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose.

Pregnancy

Azocold Syrup is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Azocold Syrup may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
Azocold Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Azocold Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Azocold Syrup may cause excessive sleepiness in patients with end stage kidney disease.
Liver
CAUTION
Azocold Syrup should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Azocold Syrup may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

I have common cold for about 4 days. The symptoms are same as mild fever, headache, body ache and stuffy ear and nose. I have taken some otc drugs as Cetrizen, paracetamol tabs and Alex cough syrup for cough.

Azocold is safe for most of the patients when taken according to the dose and duration recommended by the doctor. However, in some patients it may cause common side effects like nausea, vomiting, headache, sleepiness and other uncommon or rare side effects. If you experience any problem while taking this medicine, inform your doctor as soon as possible.

Q. Can the use of Azocold cause nausea and vomiting?

Yes, the use of Azocold can cause nausea and vomiting. Taking it with milk, food or with antacids can prevent nausea. Avoid taking fatty or fried foods along with this medication. In case of vomiting, drink plenty of water or other fluids by taking small frequent sips. Talk to your doctor if vomiting persists and you signs of dehydration, like dark colored and strong-smelling urine and a low frequency of urination. Do not take any other medicine without speaking to a doctor.

Yes, the most common side effect of Azocold is drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating heavy machinery or engaging in other activities that need your full attention, unless your healthcare provider has permitted you to do so. Do not drink alcohol or take other central nervous system depressants, such as cough and cold medicines. Also, avoid taking certain pain relief medicines and medicines that help you sleep while taking Azocold as it lead to severe drowsiness, causing falls or accidents.

No, taking a higher than the recommended dose of Azocold can lead to increased side effects due to overdose. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of your medicine before consulting your doctor.
