How to use Aspra-D Capsule SR

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Aspra-DSR Capsule is to be taken empty stomach.
Take it preferably 30 minutes before food.

How Aspra-D Capsule SR works

Aspra-DSR Capsule is a combination of two medicines: Domperidone and Esomeprazole. Domperidone is a prokinetic which works on the upper digestive tract to increase the movement of the stomach and intestines, allowing food to move more easily through the stomach. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in the relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Taking a large amount of alcohol can increase acidity and cause acid reflux in the food pipe causing heartburn. This would decrease the effect of this drug and can aggravate your underlying condition.
Pregnancy

Aspra-DSR Capsule may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
SAFE
Aspra-DSR Capsule is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving
Aspra-DSR Capsule may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Aspra-DSR Capsule should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Aspra-DSR Capsule may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
CAUTION
Aspra-DSR Capsule should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Aspra-DSR Capsule may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Aspra-DSR Capsule is not recommended in patients with moderate and severe liver disease.

Q. What is Aspra-d?
Aspra-d is a combination of two medicines: Domperidone and Esomeprazole. This combination is used to treat acidity and heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD); a condition where the acid in the stomach flows back up into the food pipe (esophagus). It is also used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers. Domperidone helps to control vomiting by increasing the movement of the gut, allowing food to move more easily through the stomach.
Q. Is it safe to use Aspra-d?
Yes, Aspra-d is safe to use in most of the patients. However, in some patients it may cause common side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, flatulence, dryness in mouth, dizziness, headache and other uncommon and rare side effect. Inform your doctor if you experience any persistent problem while taking this medicine.
Q. Which is the best time to take Aspra-d?
It is best to take Aspra-d before the first meal of the day or on an empty stomach.
Q. Can the use of Aspra-d cause abnormal heart beat?
Yes, the use of Aspra-d can cause an increased risk of irregular heart beat (serious arrhythmias). This is a serious side effect but rare (the chance that it may happen is very low). The risk may be slightly higher in those who are more than 60 years of age.

The use of Aspra-d is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to rabeprazole or domperidone or any other inactive ingredients of the medicine. Caution is advised in patients with underlying kidney or liver disease.
Q. Can the use of Aspra-d cause dry mouth?
Yes, the use of Aspra-d can cause dry mouth. Dryness of mouth occurs due to Domperidone. If you experience dry mouth, drink plenty of water. Take regular sips of water during the day and keep some water on your bedside at night. Cut down the intake of alcohol and avoid smoking. Try to use alcohol-free mouthwash as the risk of tooth decay increases, if you have dry mouth.
Q. Can the use of Aspra-d cause diarrhea?
Yes, the use of Aspra-d can cause diarrhea. In case, you experience diarrhea, drink plenty of water or other fluids. Also, avoid taking fatty or fried foods. Talk to your doctor if you have persistent diarrhea and signs of dehydration like less frequency of urination and dark colored and strong-smelling urine. Do not take any medicines without consulting the doctor.
