Altonin Tablet PR can be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time each day to get the most benefit. You should continue taking the medicine and complete the dose even if your symptoms improve. If you stop taking it too early, the infection may return or worsen.
Using this medicine may cause some common side effects such as headaches, nausea, and flatulence in some people. These side effects are usually temporary and go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or do not go away.
Before starting treatment with this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have any problems with your heart, liver, or kidneys. This will ensure that the infection is completely cleared and prevent it from returning.

- You have been prescribed Altonin Tablet PR to treat and prevent urinary tract infections.
- Take it with food to avoid nausea, which is a common side effect.
- Cranberry should be used with caution in patients with kidney stones as cranberry contains a moderate amount of oxalate.
- Altonin Tablet PR can turn your urine a yellow/brown colour. This is normal and nothing to worry about.
- If you are taking any contraceptive 'pill' at the same time as Altonin Tablet PR, the effectiveness of the 'pill' can be reduced if you have a bout of being sick (vomiting) which lasts for more than 24 hours. In such a case, ask your doctor for additional contraceptive measures.
- Altonin Tablet PR can reduce the effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine. If you are due to have any vaccinations, make sure the person treating you knows that you are taking this medicine.
