X-Ray Left Hip Joint LAT View is a safe and painless imaging test to visualize the hip joints and associated soft tissues using small amounts of ionizing radiations. Dense body parts like bones appear white in color, while soft tissues usually appear dark in color. Sometimes, a contrast agent would be used to get more detailed information. This test analyzes the hip joints for potential abnormalities like fractures, dislocations, osteoporosis, infections, and arthritis. The test can also be used to analyze how the hip joints are healing post-surgery.

X-rays are generally not recommended for pregnant women because of the risk to the baby. The patient would be asked to remove the jewelry and may be asked to wear a hospital gown.

What are the drawbacks of a bone X-ray?

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Even the bone microfractures or complicated spine injuries are not clearly visible on the X Ray images. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.
