It also helps to visualise the internal organs of the chest which includes the lungs, airways, heart, food pipe and diapragm. Decubitus indicates that the patient is lying down , the central ray is horizontal and parallel with the floor.
It is most often used to demonstrate the presence of air-fluid levels or free air in the chest and abdomen.
