X - Ray Clavicle Both AP is a test to visualize the clavicle (collar bone) and the surrounding soft tissues (skin and muscles). The collar bone connects your shoulder to the breastbone and rib cage. When a chest x-ray is taken with the back against the film plate and the x-ray machine in front of the patient it is called an anteroposterior (AP) view.

This test is prescribed by the doctor to diagnose any fractures of the clavicle (collar bone) and to monitor the healing of the broken bone after it has been set.

What are the drawbacks of a bone X-ray?

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.
