TERT gene promoter mutation test

The TERT gene promoter mutation test is a specialized genetic test that looks for specific changes in the promoter region of the TERT gene (Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase), particularly the C228T and C250T mutations. These mutations are often found in certain types of cancers, such as glioblastomas and various forms of thyroid cancer including papillary, follicular, poorly differentiated, and anaplastic thyroid carcinomas. This test helps in understanding the tumor's behavior, aiding in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning. During the test, DNA is extracted from the tissue, and the TERT promoter region is analyzed using PCR and sequencing methods to detect the presence of mutations. A positive result indicates the presence of a mutation, which may be associated with increased tumor aggressiveness, while a negative result means no mutation was detected. This test provides valuable insights, but results should always be interpreted by a doctor in the context of the patient's overall clinical picture.
Note: One representative block of the tumor is required. However, 1-4 representative blocks of tumors are acceptable.
