This translocation results in the fusion of the SYT gene on chromosome 18 with one of the SSX genes (typically SSX1 or SSX2) on the X chromosome, forming a SYT::SSX fusion transcript. The test looks for this abnormal gene using a method called PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), which helps detect very small amounts of genetic material.
