Semen Analysis (at TATA 1mg Labs Centre)

Semen analysis is a process of examining the semen for the physical appearance as well as microscopy for the sperms. This test measures the number of sperm present and looks for any abnormalities in the shape (morphology) and movement (motility) of the sperm.

This test is done if a couple is having issues suggestive of infertility. It also helps to evaluate the success of the vasectomy procedure. This assay helps in determining male fertility status. Male infertility can be due to a decrease in the number of viable sperm, abnormal sperm morphology, and abnormalities of the seminal fluid. The semen analysis includes the physical characteristics like volume, color, pH, and thickness of fluid followed by time for liquefaction and fructose test. It also includes microscopy examination for sperm counts and morphology as well as vitality. A post-vasectomy semen analysis is expected to show no sperm or very few non-moving sperm.
