MRI Venography MRV

MRI venography, also known as magnetic resonance venography (MRV), is an imaging technique. It helps to visualize the veins. MRV can help to assess the blood flow in the veins and detect blood clots or structural vein abnormalities. Doctors use it to check for blood flow problems in the brain and developmental venous abnormalities. It also helps to track a possible increase in intracranial blood pressure.

Cerebral venous thrombosis is a fairly specific condition that the MRV may detect. It has been known to show blood clots, structural abnormalities of veins in newborns and early children, difficulties with blood flow in the brain, and even neurological disorders such as intracranial hypertension. As an MRV uses magnets, it should be avoided in patients with metal implants in their bodies.
