Mercury, EDTA Blood

The Mercury, EDTA Blood is a blood test that measures the amount of mercury, a toxic heavy metal that enters the body through ingestion of food containing mercury, inhalation of mercury vapors, or skin contact with mercury-containing substances. This test is used to assess mercury exposure and to identify mercury toxicity. It may be advised when there are symptoms indicative of mercury poisoning, such as headaches, fatigue, muscle weakness, tremors, irritability, insomnia, memory problems, and neurological impairment. Organic mercury, particularly methylmercury, can be harmful to the nervous system, and pregnant women and young children are especially vulnerable to its effects. The test is also done in individuals who consume large amounts of fish or seafood that may contain high levels of mercury. It is also important for those who work in industries with a higher risk of mercury exposure, such as mining, manufacturing, or healthcare industry (e.g., those working with dental amalgams). Additionally, the mercury blood test can be used to monitor individuals undergoing treatment for mercury toxicity, individuals who have been exposed to contaminated medical devices or environmental sources of mercury.
This test is done by a highly specialised Mass Spectrometric technique (ICP-MS) that can measure elements at trace levels in body fluids.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample for this test is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
