IA2 Insulin Autoantibodies

Antibodies against Islet Cell Antigen 2 (IA-2 or ICA-512) are autoantibodies produced by the immune system that target a protein called IA-2, which is found on the surface of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. IA-2 is an important antigen involved in the regulation of insulin secretion. In Type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas, leading to a deficiency of insulin in the body. During this process, the immune system produces autoantibodies that target the beta cells, including IA-2 autoantibodies.
