A haptoglobin test measures the amount of haptoglobin present in your blood. Haptoglobin is a protein produced by your liver. It binds with hemoglobin, which is a protein found in red blood cells.

 The haptoglobin test may be done if you have symptoms and signs of anemia, such as paleness, tiredness, and weakness, along with findings suggestive of hemolytic anemia, such as jaundice and dark urine.
