The Gliadin Antibody IgA test, also called the deamidated gliadin peptide antibodies test, helps to detect auto-immune conditions like celiac disease and analyze the effectiveness of a gluten-free diet. Celiac disease is an auto-immune disorder characterized by an abnormal response to gluten, a protein commonly found in wheat, barley, and rye. If you have symptoms such as malabsorption, chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, anemia, bloating, or a family history of celiac disease, your doctor may recommend this test. A positive result for Gliadin IgA indicates celiac disease, especially in children below two years. This test helps monitor the effectiveness of therapy and a gluten-free diet in individuals diagnosed with celiac disease, rule out gluten sensitivity in people with celiac disease symptoms but who don't have celiac disease based on other tests, serves as a follow-up test after a positive IgA-tTG (tissue transglutaminase) or IgA-EMA (endomysial antibodies) test, which are more specific but less sensitive tests for celiac disease, and also helps exclude other conditions that may cause symptoms similar to celiac disease. They include non-celiac gluten sensitivity, inflammatory bowel disease, and other malabsorption syndromes.
