DCP (Decarboxy Prothrombin) - PIVKA II

PIVKA-II (Protein Induced by Vitamin K Absence) or Antagonist-II is a sensitive functional marker of vitamin K status. It is also called DCP (des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin), an abnormal form of clotting factor prothrombin that is produced by the liver. Under normal conditions, the liver utilizes vitamin K to make a normal clotting factor (prothrombin). However, if the liver undergoes damage, such as in conditions like HCC or severe vitamin K deficiency, it releases PIVKA-II instead.

The DCP (Decarboxy Prothrombin) - PIVKA II test is advised by doctors in cases where liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) or other severe liver diseases are suspected.
