Cysticercus - IgG antibody, Serum

Cysticercosis is a parasitic tissue infection caused by the larval stage of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium). Humans acquire cysticercosis by ingesting tapeworm eggs, often through contaminated food or water, or by autoinfection in individuals already carrying the intestinal tapeworm. Once inside the body, the larvae can form cysts in muscles, eyes, skin, and the central nervous system (neurocysticercosis).

The Cysticercus - IgG antibody, Serum test is recommended for individuals who exhibit symptoms such as seizures, chronic headaches, or vision problems. It is also advised for those who have recently traveled to or resided in areas where the pork tapeworm is common. Additionally, the test can be used to monitor individuals who have been treated for cysticercosis and for people with risk factors such as poor sanitation or consumption of undercooked pork.

Usually, no special preparation is required for this test. You may eat and drink as per your daily routine. However, it is preferred that you share your clinical history, current medications, and supplement use with your doctor before giving the sample, as these may influence the results.
