Chromium, EDTA Blood

The Chromium, EDTA Blood test is a blood test that measures the amount of chromium, an essential trace element found in the environment. Chromium plays a vital role in regulating blood sugar levels and supporting metabolism and enters the body through food, water, air, and in some cases, industrial exposure. The Chromium, EDTA Blood is used to identify chromium deficiency or toxicity (excess chromium) in the body. It is done when there are symptoms suggestive of chromium imbalance in the body, such as unexplained weight loss, fatigue, confusion, irregular blood sugar levels, or poor wound healing. This test is also recommended for individuals who work in industries involving chromium, such as those in manufacturing or welding, or those exposed to chromium through environmental contamination. Additionally, the test may be used to assess the impact of dietary changes on chromium absorption and metabolism, for patients undergoing treatment that may affect chromium levels, and for those with conditions like diabetes that could be influenced by chromium status.
This test is done by a highly specialised Mass Spectrometric technique (ICP-MS) that can measure elements at trace levels in body fluids.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample for this test is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
