CECT Scan Nasopharynx
A CECT Scan Nasopharynx, also known as Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography of the nasopharynx, is a medical imaging technique. It uses special X-ray equipment, contrast material, and software to create cross-sectional images of the paranasal sinus cavities (respiratory part of the nasal cavity) and pharynx (mouth, throat, and esophagus). The three-dimensional images produced by the scan helps physicians and otolaryngologists to locate and diagnose symptoms like headaches, nosebleeds, nose blockage and numbness, and throat infections.
Increased exposure to x-rays during the procedure may cause damage to the cells in the body. However, in most cases, only a low level of radiation is used to avoid side effects. An abnormal scan test may indicate squamous cell carcinomas or nasopharyngeal lesions, sinusitis (infection of sinuses), and nasal obstruction.
