Brucella, DNA PCR - Qualitative

Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by the Brucella species of bacteria. It is typically transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals or by consuming unpasteurized dairy products such as milk, cheese, or butter. It is also known as “undulant fever” due to its characteristic pattern of rising and falling fever.

The Brucella, DNA PCR - Qualitative test uses advanced polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology to detect bacterial DNA directly from blood. By amplifying even tiny amounts of the bacteria’s genetic material, the test ensures a rapid and reliable diagnosis. This is especially important because brucellosis often causes general symptoms like fever, chills, night sweats, fatigue, body aches, and loss of appetite, which can be mistaken for other infections.

This test is especially valuable for individuals at higher risk of exposure, such as farmers, veterinarians, slaughterhouse workers, laboratory staff, or those who consume unpasteurized dairy products. It also helps in detecting infection among travelers returning from regions where brucellosis is common. Early and accurate detection allows doctors to start treatment promptly, reducing the risk of chronic complications.

No special preparation is required for this test. However, it is important to inform the doctor about all medications, supplements, or underlying illnesses, as these factors can affect the test results.
