Valeratec Cream

Overview

Introduction

Valeratec Cream is a combination of two different medicines. It is used in the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections of the skin. It also helps to treat inflammatory skin conditions by relieving symptoms like redness, swelling, and itching.

Valeratec Cream is only meant for external use and should be used as advised by your doctor. A thin layer of the medicine should be applied only to the affected areas of the skin with clean and dry hands. If it gets into your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina rinse with water. It may take several days to weeks for your symptoms to improve, but you should keep using this medicine regularly. The course of the treatment should be completed to ensure better efficacy of the medicine. If your condition does not improve or gets worse, you should talk to your doctor.

The most common side effects of this medicine include itching, dryness, redness, and burning sensation at the application site. These are usually self-limiting. Serious side effects are rare. You must consult the doctor if you experience any allergic reaction (rashes, itching, swelling, shortness of breath, etc.).

Before taking this medicine, it is important to tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines for the same disease or other diseases. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take this medicine with proper consultation and caution. If you are a known allergic to the medicine, you must refrain from using this medicine. How Valeratec Cream works

Valeratec Cream is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone and Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin), which treats skin infections. Betamethasone is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin) is an antibiotic with additional antifungal action. It works by preventing the growth and multiplication of the both bacteria and fungi.

FAQs

Q. How to use Valeratec?

Valeratec should be used as advised by the doctor or as per the instructions on the label of the medicine. Apply a thin layer of Valeratec to cover the affected areas. The dose would depend on the condition for which it is prescribed. Wash your hands after using Valeratec unless it is used for treating infection of the hands. Avoid contact with the eyes.

Q. What precautions should I take while using Valeratec?

Do not use Valeratec for longer periods of time than advised especially on the face as it may cause thinning of the skin. If it has to be applied over the eyelids, make sure it does not get into your eyes. Unless told by your doctor, do not apply a bandage or dressing to the area being treated, as this will increase absorption of the preparation and increase the risk of side-effects. This medicine should only be used by the patient and never be given to other people even if their condition appears to be the same.

Q. What would happen if I use a higher than the recommended dose of Valeratec and for long periods?

The dosage and duration of using Valeratec should be strictly according to the doctor’s advice. This medicine when used in higher doses and for longer periods can get absorbed in the blood and cause adrenal suppression and Cushing's syndrome. It can cause weight gain, high blood pressure and rounding of the face. Its application can cause a change in color of skin at the site of application. Veins beneath the skin become visible because of the thinning and weakening of the skin. There could also be an increased hair growth. If you experience an increased severity of your symptoms, please consult your doctor for re-evaluation.

Q. Can I stop taking Valeratec when my symptoms are relieved?

No, do not stop using Valeratec and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.
