Your child’s medicine at a glance

Give Unin MS Syrup to your child orally, preferably at a fixed time, either before or after meals. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with meals. Generally, this medicine is prescribed to be given two times a day, in the morning and evening. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but do not double the dose if it is time for the next dose. Never change the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor since these depend upon the type and severity of the infection, your child’s age, and body weight.

In some cases, this medicine may cause some minor and temporary side effects, including nausea, vomiting, weight loss, metallic taste, headache, loss of appetite, abdominal cramps, and mild skin rash. These side effects are temporary and recede when your child gets used to the medicine. In case the side effects persist or start bothering your child, consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Narrate your child’s complete medical history to your child’s doctor, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment.

Benefits of Unin MS Syrup for your child

Treatment of Bacterial infections
Unin MS Syrup is an antibiotic medicine given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections such as tooth abscess, gum infection, pneumonia, diarrhea, dysentery, peritonitis, burning sensation while passing urine, and certain genital tract infections. This medicine inhibits the growth of infection-causing bacteria by stopping it from multiplying. You may start seeing an improvement in the infection within 3 to 5 days of regular dosing. But, you must still finish the full course of the medicine and never stop it abruptly by yourself as that may worsen your child’s condition or cause infection recurrence.

How can I give Unin MS Syrup to my child?

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Unin MS Syrup may be taken with or without food.

How Unin MS Syrup works

Unin MS Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.

Quick tips

  • Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water.
  • Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Unin MS Syrup on tongue) after taking Unin MS Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
  • Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Unin MS Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
  • Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Unin MS Syrup treats only bacterial infections.
  • Discontinue Unin MS Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
  • Only give Unin MS Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

Frequently asked questions

You must tell the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because there is a possibility that Unin MS Syrup may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
No, do not give Unin MS Syrup with cough and cold medicines. The reason being, one of the ingredients present in Unin MS Syrup can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups and can lead to disulfiram reaction, causing nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
An extra dose of Unin MS Syrup is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.
It could mean that Unin MS Syrup is unable to kill the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic that has a higher efficacy against the disease-causing bacteria. Remember, that sometimes, such antibiotics may have to be given by IV route (intravenous injection) in the hospital.
Unin MS Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Unin MS Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Store Unin MS Syrup at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Children may accidentally consume medicines if they find them while playing around. So, make sure that all the medicines are kept away from their reach and sight.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Unin MS Syrup contains active ingredient metronidazole, which causes red-brown urine. It is not pathogenic but a side effect. It subsides once the medicine is stopped after the completion of the treatment.
