Overview

Introduction

Shicalm H 2.5 mg/1 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of schizophrenia. It is a combination medicine which works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger in the brain that affect thoughts and mood. It also helps by improving muscle control and reducing the stiffness of the muscle.

Shicalm H 2.5 mg/1 mg Tablet should be taken with food. However, it is advisable to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body. Take this medicine in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is important not to stop taking this medicine suddenly as it may worsen your symptoms.

Some common side effects of this medicine include dryness in mouth, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, urinary retention, constipation and tremor. Initially, this medicine may cause sudden drop in the blood pressure when you change positions. So, it is better to rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It also causes dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen the drowsiness.

Take it with food, if it causes stomach upset.

How Shicalm H Tablet works

Shicalm H 2.5 mg/1 mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Trifluoperazine and Trihexyphenidyl/Benzhexol. Trifluoperazine is a typical antipsychotic. It works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (dopamine) in the brain that affects thoughts and mood. However, it may cause side effects such as involuntary movements (shaking of hands, muscle spasms). Trihexyphenidyl/Benzhexol is added to treat and prevent these side effects.
