Rabies is a serious disease caused by a virus. Rabishield 100IU Injection is given one is bitten by an infected animal. Post-exposure rabies prophylaxis (PEP) is necessary if you are bitten by a dog, cat, or other animals that are rabid or is suspected to be infected with the rabies virus.
Rabishield 100IU Injection is to be administered as post-exposure prophylaxis after trained healthcare personnel's approval. If a person is bitten by an animal, wash wounds and scratches immediately with soap and water for about 15 minutes. This medicine is generally administered by a doctor or a nurse at a hospital or clinical set-up and should not be self-administered.
People at high risk of exposure to rabies, such as veterinarians, animal handlers, rabies laboratory workers, and rabies biologics production workers are given pre-exposure prophylaxis. The pre-exposure schedule for rabies vaccination is 3 doses. Ask your doctor about the same.
Common side effects of this medicine include injection site reactions (such as pain, redness, and swelling), headache, muscle pain, and upper respiratory tract infection. If you experience any of these which do no resolve on their own or get worse, let your doctor know.

- Rabishield 100IU Injection prevents rabies infection when used along with other anti-rabies vaccine.
- It is used for a bite that has passed through the skin by a suspected rabid animal (dog, cat, monkey, rabbit, etc.).
- If you have been bitten:
- Wash and flush the bite wound with soap and water for at least 15 minutes

The rabies virus is transmitted through the saliva of infected animals. People usually become infected with the virus if they get bitten by an infected animal. Therefore, you may need a relatively greater amount of Rabishield 100IU Injection may be required to be placed in and around the wound site to ease out your pain and treat infection.
Q. What is post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of rabies?
Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) consists of a dose of human rabies immune globulin (HRIG) and rabies vaccine. It is given on the day of the rabies exposure and after that a dose of vaccine is given again on days 3, 7, and 14. For people who have never been vaccinated against rabies previously, post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) should always include administration of both HRIG and rabies vaccine. The combination of HRIG and vaccine is recommended for both bite and non-bite exposures, regardless of the interval between exposure and initiation of treatment.
Q. Can a pregnant woman receive Rabishield 100IU Injection if exposed to rabies?
Yes, Rabishield 100IU Injection can be taken by a pregnant woman. Cases of any fetal abnormalities in pregnant women have not been reported with the use of Rabishield 100IU Injection. The doctor may even suggest routine pre-exposure vaccination against rabies if the risk of exposure is high.
