How to use Pronara Capsule

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Pronara 40mg/5mg Capsule is to be taken empty stomach.

How Pronara Capsule works

Pronara 40mg/5mg Capsule is a combination of two medicines: Propranolol and Flunarizine which prevent migraine. Propranolol is a beta blocker and Flunarizine is a calcium channel blocker. They work by stabilizing the reactive nerve cells and increasing the threshold to migraine activation. They also inhibit cortical spreading depression (CSD- electric waves that move across the brain and cause pain and inflammation).

Special precautions for Pronara Capsule
Taking Propranolol with alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
Pronara 40mg/5mg Capsule may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Q. In which conditions the use of Pronara is contraindicated?
Use of Pronara is contraindicated in patients with allergy to any of the ingredients: Propranolol or Flunarizine or any other excipients. This medicine contains Propranolol, so its use should also be avoided in patients with asthma, slow heart rate, abnormal heart rhythms, or heart conditions like AV block or sick sinus syndrome. As it also contains Flunarizine, the use of this medicine should be avoided in patients with the history of depression or Parkinson's disease.
Q. What are the instructions for the storage and disposal of Pronara?
Keep Pronara in the container or pack it came in, tightly closed. Store it as mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children, and other people.
Q. Can I stop taking Pronara when my symptoms are improved?
Pronara is given as a prophylactic treatment for the prevention of migraine headaches. Do not stop taking this medicine until advised by your doctor as it may cause your migraine episodes to return. Also, it should not be stopped suddenly as it contains Propranolol and a sudden withdrawal of Propranolol may cause sweating, shaking, irregular or fast heartbeat, worsening of underlying angina or heart attack. You must take Pronara exactly as advised by your doctor.
Q. Can Pronara be used for the treatment of a migraine headache?
No, Pronara does not help in relieving a migraine headache that has already started. It can only be used for preventing the new episode of a migraine headache.
