Furmecil Capsule should be taken with water at least 1 hour before or 1 hour after a meal. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

The most common side effects of this medicine include bone marrow suppression, acute renal failure, diarrhea, dehydration, electrolyte disturbance, and lacrimal disorders. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have medical conditions involving blood, kidney, and liver or if you are suffering from any breathing disorder. This medicine is known to reduce the number of blood cells in your blood thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with kidney, liver and heart function during treatment with this medicine. The use of effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to avoid pregnancy.

These are of various kinds depending on the origin, affected area and severity of the cancer. Furmecil Capsule helps to kill the cancer cells and also stops their further growth and spread. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to get the most benefit.

How Furmecil Capsule works

Furmecil Capsule is a combination of anticancer medications. Tegafur gets converted to its active form known as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) that inhibits the synthesis and function of genetic material DNA and RNA and prevents the growth of cancer cells. Gimeracil prevents the breakdown of 5-FU, which helps maintain high concentrations of 5-FU against cancer cells. Oteracil suppresses 5-FU’s gastrointestinal toxicity.

You may be at risk of infection, so try to avoid crowds or people with colds, gargle upon returning home, and wash your hands before meals and before and after using the bathroom.
To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor, and eat small, frequent meals. If you vomit a dose of medication, make sure you tell your doctor. Do not replace the dose that has been vomited.
Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if diarrhea persists. If you experience diarrhea, avoid high-fiber, fatty, and spicy foods.
To prevent bleeding, avoid hard work or strenuous sports to prevent injuries and bruises.
Decreased sensation, numbness, and tingling in fingers and toes may worsen with repeated doses of Furmecil Capsule. It is important to report this to your doctor.

Use a moisturizer to get relief from rashes, dry and itchy skin. Avoid direct sunlight, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen (SPF of more than 15) whenever you step outdoors. Do not go swimming if you have a rash because the chlorine in the water can make it worse. Avoid hot water baths and wear loose and cotton fabric clothes. Your skin will become better once treatment is stopped.

How to relieve constipation during treatment with Furmecil Capsule?

To relieve constipation, include fiber in your diet (fruits and vegetables), drink 8-10 glasses of fluids a day, and keep active. A stool softener (with a doctor's prescription) once or twice a day may prevent constipation. If you do not have a bowel movement for 2-3 days, consult your doctor.

I am noticing a change in my taste. How shall I improve my taste?

You may experience a metallic taste or find that food has no taste at all. You may dislike foods or beverages that you liked before receiving cancer treatment. Rinse your mouth with a solution of salt and bicarbonate of soda before mealtimes to neutralize the bad taste in your mouth. You can also add extra flavor or seasonings to your food.

Are there any precautions for tingling sensation and numbness in my arms and legs?

This medicine causes tingling, numbness, pain, or burning sensation in the arms or legs. Be careful when moving around, as the numbness may make it harder to walk, feel your hands or feet, or increase your risk of falls. Talk to your doctor if you feel these symptoms. You may need to change your dosage or schedule.
