Q. How to measure the ideal amount of cream (containing Fluderm acetonide) that should be applied?

The amount of topical steroid that you should apply is commonly measured by fingertip units (FTUs). One FTU is the amount of cream or ointment that is squeezed out along an adult's fingertip (that is, from the top end of the finger to the first crease of the finger). As a guide, one FTU is enough to cover an area twice the size of your hand. Your doctor will give you an idea of how many FTUs you will need to cover the area of your skin which is affected.

Q. What is the effect of Fluderm on children?

Children who use topical Fluderm may have an increased risk of side effects including slowed growth and delayed weight gain. Long-term treatment should be avoided in children. Talk to your doctor about the risk of applying this medication on your child’s skin.
