How Epotin Injection works

Epotin 40000 IU Injection is an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA). It works by stimulating the bone marrow (soft tissue inside the bones which produces red blood cells) to produce more red blood cells.

Interaction with alcohol is unknown. Please consult your doctor.
Epotin 40000 IU Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Epotin 40000 IU Injection is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Epotin 40000 IU Injection may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Epotin 40000 IU Injection is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Epotin 40000 IU Injection is recommended.
Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is advised while the patient is taking this medicine.
Epotin 40000 IU Injection should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Epotin 40000 IU Injection may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Epotin Injection?

If you miss a dose of Epotin 40000 IU Injection, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert Advice

  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a history of blood disorders, cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures, or kidney disease.
  • Inform your doctor if you experience chest pain, breathing problems, sudden/severe headache, or difficulty with vision, speech, or walking.
  • Requires regular BP monitoring.
  • Requires weekly haemoglobin(Hb) level monitoring when treatment starts and monthly thereafter. Hb level should not exceed 1 g/dL in any 14-day span.
  • Do not discontinue treatment without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.

Q. How should Epotin be stored?

In the hospital, pre-filled syringes are stored unopened in a refrigerator between 2 and 8 degrees centigrade. If you are using at home, it is important that the pre-filled syringe is stored in your refrigerator although not in the freezer compartment. It should not be frozen. Allow the pre-filled syringe to reach room temperature prior to using it. This usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Epotin pre-filled syringes that are being used or about to be used can be kept at room temperature (not above 25°C) for a maximum single period of 7 days. Pre filled syringes should be protected from light.

Q. What to do if you use too much Epotin?

Tell the doctor or nurse immediately if you think too much Epotin has been injected.

Q. When should Epotin not be used?

Epotin should not be used:- 1) after the expiry date on the label, 2) if the seal is broken, 3) if the liquid is colored or you can see particles floating in it, 4) if you know, or think that it may have been accidentally frozen & 5) if there has been a refrigerator failure.
