How Cefbact ES Powder for infusion works

Cefbact ES Injection is a combination of three medicines: Ceftriaxone, Disodium edetate and Sulbactam. Ceftriaxone is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Disodium edetate is an adjuvant while Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. They are added to reduce resistance and enhance the activity of Ceftriaxone against bacteria.

Frequently asked questions

Cefbact ES Injection is used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections such as sepsis, pneumonia, abdominal infections (like peritonitis and biliary infections), urinary tract and kidney infections, bone and joint infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, ear–nose–throat infections, meningitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhea. It may also be given as a single pre-surgery dose to help prevent infection.
Seek immediate help if you notice signs of serious side effects of Cefbact ES Injection, such as severe allergic reactions (sudden rash, swelling of face/throat, trouble breathing), severe or bloody diarrhea (possible antibiotic-associated colitis), seizures, chest pain, or severe dizziness after rapid IV injection, or signs of severe skin reactions or anaphylactic shock.
At higher-than-standard doses of Cefbact ES Injection, it can form calcium salts that show up on scans like “gallstones” and may cause biliary symptoms. These usually resolve after stopping therapy and rarely need surgery, but doctors will decide whether to continue or stop treatment if symptoms occur.
If kidney function is markedly reduced (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL/min), the Cefbact ES Injection must be dose-adjusted. In combined severe kidney and liver dysfunction, the Cefbact ES Injection should also be dose-adjusted, and medicine levels in blood may be monitored closely.
Yes, like other antibiotics, Cefbact ES Injection can cause diarrhea or colitis. Any new or severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, or fever during or after treatment should be reported immediately so treatment can be reassessed.
