Ampicillin is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by attacking their cell wall. Specifically, it prevents the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called peptidoglycan, which provides the cell wall with the strength required for survival of bacteria in human body.

Expert advice for Ampicillin

  • Do not take ampicillin with food or milk.
  • Do not start or continue the ampicillin suspension/capsule and consult your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ampicillin, penicillin, cephalosporin, any other antibiotic of this class or any other ingredient of suspension/capsule.
  • Do not start or continue the ampicillin suspension/capsule and consult your doctor if you suffer from liver problems ar diabetes.

Expert advice for Cloxacillin

  • It should not be taken by patients who are allergic to cloxacillin or any of the other penicillins or cephalosporin.
  • Cloxacillin may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. Use a second method of birth control while taking cloxacillin to protect against pregnancy.
  • Consult your doctor before taking cloxacillin, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • If you are on long-term treatment with cloxacillin, your kidney and liver function, and your blood cell count may have to be done regularly.
